Memos

My business writing class required students to compose memos and emails in a variety of different scenarios. The following samples display my ability to write under different circumstances, such as when sharing positive or negative news, or when summarizing or sharing information. My experience in the class has also taught me how to edit and revise messages for further readability, and I can bring these skills to the table in any professional position.

Interview Results Memo
We were asked to conduct interviews with individuals working in the professional word about their opinions on a Wall Street Journal article titled "Wealth or Waste? Rethinking the Value of a Business Major". The memo summed up what was discussed and learned during the interview.

Executive Results Summary
I researched various subjects and classes to find a class business majors could take to develop their critical thinking skills. The results of my research were summarized and composed into this executive results summary that I sent to my instructor.

I took on the role of the founder of a small business called Baptista Tile. The company was renovating its website and the new software I planned on using required an after hours training session. This email breaks down the new software, the details of the training session, and how it will benefit the employees and the company.

Negative Scenario
In this scenario, I played the manager of a sports bar and grill. The bar was known for having a softball league every summer. However, due to administrative difficulties in past seasons caused by people committing to teams then no longer being able to participate, the company has stopped refunding the registration fee for teams. After a customer contacted the company for a refund after his teammates fell through, I politely explain the negative news of the company's inability to refund the fee while turning the situation around by offering an alternative solution.
